Look after yourself
Last Friday, I was in panic. I had to get my nails done, my hair cut and styled and my mani-pedi was long overdue. Why was in a hurry? Because, Saturday morning was my radio show. That meant I had no time in the morning and I had to go to a party in the evening. This is my sad story before every party. I don’t pay attention to myself and then get things done at the last moment.
It's not that I don’t have time. Its just laziness on my part. I would finish all household chores any given day, but for me? I don’t have any time. My dresser is full of creams and serums to make me look younger; erase my wrinkles, brighten my complexion. But they are there. Sitting pretty waiting for me to open them and use them.
I start with great enthusiasm for the first week. I promise to myself that I am going to make it a habit of spending at least half an hour on myself every day. Believe me, the day I promise, next day something happens and I am not able to do so. Then it becomes sporadic and ultimately stops. The incessant ritual goes on after every few months.
I for one, was endowed a very good skin by Mother Nature. I really didn’t need much maintenance much to the delight of my husband who hated makeup. Added to that was the fact that my skin was also extremely sensitive and so most creams would not suit me. Bearing children made no difference and so0 with time I became careless about looking after myself. Then I hit 50 and suddenly I saw all the fine lines, the wrinkles and the sunspots. OMG!!! I had to do something about it. So I spent more than a hundred dollars on getting creams and lotions. The first week was ecstatic. I was excited about my products. Every night I would wash my face, apply moisturizer and then apply my night cream. Every morning I would ask my husband ‘is my skin looking better?’ And he would say, ‘it looks as good to me as always’.
You can imagine the rest.
Sounds familiar to you? Well, don’t let it become your story because my dear ladies, Mother Nature is good to us only up to a point and after that we have to look after ourselves. Don’t feel guilty to have a mani-pedi or buying that expensive serum. It may not have the effect as it claims but it will go a long way in restoring your confidence in looking good. Set a routine and even if you can't keep it up, start it every other month. I am going to do from today. Please give me company in wishing away the fine lines.
So be it!!!
