‘To thine own self be true’
The quote is from Hamlet. It is very close to my heart because I often wonder how can we be true to others if we are not true to ourselves. They say you can fool the whole world but you can't fool yourself. How true but most of us afraid to be honest with ourselves because it is scary.
We can tell innumerable lies, cheat, shirk from responsibility but deep down we know what the truth is. And that is why talking to oneself become both necessary and scary. The more we fall into the abysmal pit of hypocrisy, and spin the web of lies, the more we avoid a chat with ourselves. But as Deepak Chopra says, spend some time with yourself everyday if you really want to be happy.
It is difficult in the beginning because all the thoughts that we have suppressed rush on to the front and vie for your attention. The chaos becomes too much to bear and this is the point where most people drop it. But just keep at it. For 10 minutes every day, lie down and just ‘BE’. Do nothing. Don’t listen to any music; switch off your cell phone and computer and close your eyes. Anytime you are distracted by a thought, just ask it to leave.
After about a month, you will realize how peaceful your mind is. That silence within you will beckon you to it and you will find yourself spending more time with yourself and relishing it. You will begin to enjoy the sounds of silence, the symphony of thoughtlessness.
Do that and enjoy the bliss
So be it!!!
