Adieu Shakespeare
More often than not I choose a quote by Shakespeare as the
title for my blog. It's not because of anything else but the fact that his plays
carry such a plethora of life hacks which are still relevant. But today when I
started to search for a suitable title, my internet was slow. So I said to
myself, ‘ why do I have to start with a quote’?
We often try to quote from men of wisdom and sometimes we do
it to impress others, sometimes a quote catches our eye and sometimes just for
the sake of it. But is it really necessary? Do we think that we don’t have
anything original to say? If that were the case, then we would not write the
rest of the text. The quote does give us a starting point though.
If is to impress our readers, how many of them will actually
recognize that it is from some great author or men of wisdom? If they do, we
might catch their attention. On the other hand, they might read the article
more critically to see if we have done justice to the quote.
If it is to substantiate our statements with the stamp of
some great man, readers might think we need authentication and discard our
writing as frivolous. Some might even think that the writer suffers from an
inferiority complex and so is trying to add weight to the writing.
For me, it is simple. It is to provide a catchy title.
Another favourite of mine is Chanakya but often his quotations are too long to
be used as a title. And do you know there are 800 quotes by The Bard that we
use in day-to-day language without even knowing that we are quoting
Shakespeare. Same goes for Chanakya.
I have no shame in using words of wise men. Readers, you are
at liberty to think what you think about my reason for using them.
Adieu!!!
