WIN
You have an important meeting in the morning and you get up early to check everything is in order. You get out in time and take 15 minutes extra in case there is more than normal traffic. But then you take a turn and ‘wham’ your tire bursts. You barely manage to bring the car on the curb. You are distraught. Here you have an important meeting and you are stuck on the highway.
What do you do? You try changing the tire or just call a cab and go for your meeting?
If you are a handy person, you might be able to change your tire in 10 minutes but for many people, it takes more than that. You may also call the person and tell them you’ll be late. But can you take that risk?
Ask yourself, WIN? What is Important Now? You will get your answer.
Most time when I sit to write, I have at least 3 distractions. Something or the other crops up. But I ask myself, WIN? Right now my blog is important because if I don’t write it in the morning, my house chores will overtake precedence.
Very often we get bogged down by things, which may be big but are not that relevant at the moment. Remember the scene from the film One Fine Day where Michelle Pfeifer has an important presentation to make and she leaves her son with George Clooney. Now I am not advocating leaving your children with strangers (unless they are handsome and charming as George Clooney!!!) but one has to set priorities and use our discretion.
We often hear the phrase where is the fire? If there is a fire, of course you will leave everything and run but if a task is impeding your immediate and important work, don’t feel guilty to ignore the other one.
By doing so, you will be ultimately more organized and accomplish more. House makers most often fall into this trap. They start cleaning a room and then they go to another room to put something back and then they start cleaning this room. At the end of the day, none of the room is properly done.
So anytime you catch yourself dithering between two things, ask yourself WIN?
It is my bet you will do more, feel better and confident
So be it !!!
