We have seen better days
Very often I hear this from people of my age. I used to hear
it from my parents. The context of this quote by Shakespeare in the play may be
different but we use it all the time to lament how we were a better generation
and so on.
I can say our generation was better, we listened to our
parents, we had regular hours, and we actually played with friends not video
games. We did not have hundred channels on TV and we were in touch with our
culture.
But is it really so? We had the hippie movement when we
growing up. We had government controlled media which was actually a mouthpiece
of the then incumbent party. We did not
have access to latest information of what was going on in the world.
Humans have a tendency to stick to the past with nostalgia.
It reminds them of the age when they were young. Yes, I agree that kids today
are on their iPads or computer all the time and they don’t play. I also agree
that we have a generation growing up without much care about their culture or
rituals or religion.
But the kids today are smart, they know what they want and
they are more aware than we were. The world is changing and we keep standing
where we are we will regress because the speed of this change is very fast.
Change is the only constant in this world and the sooner we accept this and
move with the times, the better off we will be.
So be it!!!
