‘Let noble thoughts come in from all sides’ Rig Ved

Now that is tricky, isn’t it? Thoughts come from all sides all the time but have you noticed they are mostly of negative kind? We are worrying about the house chores not completed, the presentation that is upcoming, what our partner or a family member said to us, that stupid fellow who took our parking spot and so on.

Most of us try meditation at some point or other. We try to sit quietly and try to concentrate between our eyebrows. Lo and behold, the whole universe chooses to talk to us at that very moment. Memories, which were deep buried in the subconscious, make a grand entry and our reverie is broken.

So what do we do? Don’t meditate? Be inundated with negativity the whole day? No, not at all. What do we do for privacy when we build a house? We construct a wall. So let us build a wall in our mind against negative thoughts. Easier said than done you’d say. Yes, it is difficult, I agree but not that difficult. A few simple exercises should do the trick.

Any time a negative thought enters your mind, replace it with something happy. Think about the trip you want to take to Europe. Unhappy with your spouse or significant one? Think of a time when they made you happy. Angry with your children? Thank them for letting you experience the most blissful feeling of becoming a mom. Think of the good times you had with your friends instead of thinking how they have changed.

I can go on with other explanations but to cut the long story short, we can control the thoughts coming to our mind. A little practice will make it happen. I see a feel good movie, a romantic comedy anytime I am feeling low. Believe me it helps. Have a set of friends you can relate too and in case of women; it is essential to have girlfriends who can share your joys and sorrows, who can cry with you during your heart break or your children leaving home.

But above all, train your mind to visualize how you would like to spend your day each day. Then imprint that vision on your mind and get up and face the world. Simplistic? Try it and see the difference.

So be it!!!
