Tipping Over
I read The Tipping Point, a book by Malcolm Gladwell some
time ago. In the book he talks about how a particular brand or product gets a
sudden boost due to some unique but simple factor. Sometime what dozens of
media ads and publicity can’t achieve is done by word of mouth. He calls it The
Tipping Point
He also goes on to explain how certain type of people
influences others. He has categorized them in to three types. I think the most
important are the connectors. Now these people not only know many people, they
are expert in connecting people from different walks of life. They will connect
a struggling artist to an art gallery curator or arrange house concerts to an
upcoming singer. I have a few such friends.
But why am I talking about these people? Because most of us
have benefited at one time or the other by such people. And the interesting
part is they don’t do it all the time deliberately. But they have a knack of
bringing people together. In fact all of us are to some extent, connectors. Immigrants
come and they meet someone in a resume workshop or in grocery store and they
become friends. These friends introduce them to some other friends and soon
enough they have a circle of friends.
So lets all become connectors. Make people mingle. Let them
know each other. Why? Remember, you were brought to somebody’s home one day and
you made friends when you were new?
So go ahead, host a party and call people from different
walks of life. Spread the friendship
So be it!!!!
