Support club
Every summer I plant various vegetables and seasonal flowers in our backyard despite my son’s constant grumbling that it’s not going to cut your grocery bill. I laugh and enjoy the process of planting the seedlings, watching them grow and finally pluck the veggies and I always get a good haul. Every morning there is a small basket of cucumbers, zucchini, and gourd that I fill. Tomatoes are another favourite , they come in such abundance that I freeze them for winter.
This year is a sad story though. After staying away for two years, we came back last year in September when nothing could be planted. In any case the backyard was full of overgrown five foot tall weeds. So this year we had everything cleaned, put new soil and organic fertilizer and happily bought loads of seedlings. I was very happy .
My happiness was short lived. As plants grew, there were no flowers in either vegetables or the perennials. Even when flowers came, they were not turning into fruit. Plus insects were attacking them. So I got panicky. I was doing everything right but to no avail. Luckily I have two avid gardener friends, Vanita and Reena. So I asked them and each one of them gave me tips.
What a difference those tips made. My hydrangeas are blooming, eggplants are getting ready to be picked, sweet peppers too and every morning I have a bunch of cherry tomatoes. Cabbage and Brussels sprouts still have a long way to go but I am so glad to see those butterflies and bumblebees in my garden pollinating plants.
Thank you both Vanita and Reena for your help. You are an inspiration for others. Lucky to have you both in my life. They say women are the biggest enemy of women but I am lucky to have e very supportive and loyal girl friends. We help each other, laugh together and lend our shoulder when anyone is crying. All of them have contributed so much to my life. My support club. And I thank you all.
I am sure most of you have a support club. What do you feel they contribute in your life?
We will talk more about this support club tomorrow, I have to.
Be thankful for your support club.
So be it !!!
