Women's Day

Life as we want it?

Why this question mark? Because everyday we are inundated with numerous articles, videos and books telling us how to be happy and successful. different 'Gurus' give us different methods to calm ourselves and be happy. Some of them are spiritual, some are goal oriented and still others are free flowing. Do they work? Sometimes yes. But 50% of your happiness is quotient is determined by your genes, 10% by your environment and the rest 40% depends on our own response to situations.

That is a huge percentage. So even if our genetic make up is not very cheery, we can reasonably  happy and successful. Each one of us have their own means of coping with stress and depression but sometimes we need outside help. Women take a lot on themselves and carry on cheerfully but that one cup of coffee with your girlfriend or that pedicure in the salon is all that you need to unwind. Nobody understands a woman like a woman. Have your girlfriends around you.

Today is Women's Day

Why just one day? I think every day is a women’s day. They do so much for everybody . I am not talking about just cleaning, cooking, doing laundry and other chores in the house but of how they support the life system on this planet. They give birth, they nurture the next generation. They are the cradles of civilization.

‘Yatra nari pujyante, vasanti tatr deva’ was written in our scriptures more than 5 thousand years ago. It means gods dwell in a society which values its women.  Because, our sages knew the value of women in the society. The mother is the first teacher of a child. She instills correct values, encourages the child and rewards him/ her on every step.

Indian Vedic tradition has a long history of worshipping the ‘yang’, the women ‘shakti. Is it because of gender equality? No. It’s looking at the life in a holistic way. For sustenance of life both ‘ying’ and ‘yang’ are essential. So, we have Saraswati, the goddess of learning because mother is the first teacher. We have Parvati who is the Mother and we have Durga who is the empowerment personified.

Europe has a dark history of burning ‘witches’ at stake. Were they witches? No they were highly intelligent women who questioned concepts and encouraged other women to do so. But the clergy didn’t want any questioning so they accused them of being harmful and named them witches.

Having a female deity in your house brings the creative en energy in the house. Pray before her every day. It brings more harmony and peace in the house. Light a lamp and stand before it for at least 3-4 minutes. It will lit the creative fire within you.

So be it !!!
