What fools these mortals be
Shakespeare wrote that in some context. But do you agree? I
do and don’t, for we the humans have the capacity to be divine and we have the
frailty of being most stupid. We conquer mountains, tame rivers, build bridges
but are foolish to feel jealous.
We, on one hand, give thousands to charity but ill treat our
own family. We achieve great heights in our careers but are stupid to ignore
our children. In Mahabharata, Yudhishthar is the embodiment of wisdom, yet he
was foolish enough to out his brothers and his wife on stake in gambling. What
price they paid for it!!! King Lear was a great king but chose to punish his
most loyal daughter.
History and mythology are full of such instances. In our
daily life, we do foolish things despite being intelligent. We don’t spend time
with our family and friends but are on constant chat with Facebook friends who
we haven’t even met. Brinda, my Facebook friend took the initiative of inviting
a bunch of her FB friends and it was like finding my long lost friends. But
imagine if I had been foolish to decline the invitation.
We will do foolish things. We will make mistakes but as long
as we don’t hurt anyone or don’t do stupid things to spite someone, let us be
foolish. Let us be foolish like a child to trust one another, to laugh with
gusto, to enjoy like there isn’t another day. Let us be foolish like a child
So be it!!!
