Yin and Yang part two
Yesterday I received many reactions to my blog on Yin and yang. Most women thought women are equally competent and intelligent as men and most of the times get a raw deal. it’s still a man’s world, many of them wrote.
Another reader talked about gender fluidity in ancient indian culture, Arjun’s turning into a eunuch for a year during the eleventh year of their penance. We have Draupadi marrying all five Pandava brothers. Then we have the Ardhnarishwar concept where Shiva and Shakti are embodied as one. The feminine and the masculine both in one body. In south of India, onset of menstruation in a girl is celebrated by inviting the whole family to a feast. We have a Devi Kamakhya where menstruation is worshipped.
Much of so called macho behavior in men comes from social conditioning I think. Men traditionally have been taught to appear tough , not cry and looking at women as weak. As these stereotypes are dissolving, more men today are giving in to their emotions. They cry when hurt, they support their wives emotionally and even get manicures done !!! Something which hitherto was considered feminine.
This issue of men and women and their place in this world has been discussed since times immemorial. I would just say again that they are complimentary to each other. The world needs both the softness and toughness and they can overlap each other from time to time.
There is a spiritual side of this but since this is not a forum for that, I’ll not talk about that in detail.
I thank all of you for your valuable feedback. Keep writing to me
Have a great weekend.
So be it !!!
