‘Beware the barrenness of a busy life’ -Socrates
I absolutely agree. We all either are busy or at least try
to be busy that we often ignore things that matter the most. And I am not just
talking about missing a PTA meeting or not being able to see our child in
school play or not being able to call our parents or siblings or not meeting
our buddies.
I am talking about meeting with us. Taking time to sit
quietly and contemplate. To talk to oneself, to know what really matters. Is
that coveted promotion going to give you pleasure or the notion that you got it
and your rival didn’t? To reflect on our thoughts and to see what really ticks.
If your career makes you tick, by all means make that your priority, but be
prepared to have no family life. If traveling is your passion, do it.
One can say what about money? Yes, that is a very valid
question. That is why I said why do we have to be busy all the time. We can
have a balance. We go to a new place and we have to cover all the tourist spot.
And we have to take lot of pictures and put them on Instagram so we can show
the whole world that we are happy. So many times I have asked my friends if
they remember the details about a place they visited and their answer is’ oh we
were so busy seeing all the places, I don’t really remember what you are
asking.
There you go!!! Even on a vacation, we are busy. One of our
family friends went on a tour of Europe. They saw Paris in one day. ONE Day?
Paris? ‘ Yes but we covered 8 countries in ten days’ was her answer. Good for
anyone who is satisfied with just counting the countries they have visited.
Swami Vivekananda said,’ anyone who says he is always busy,
he is not busy but dizzy.’ Stop and smell the roses. Watch that butterfly
fluttering in your back yard. The meetings, the grocery trips and the never
ending to do list can wait.
Meet your self
So be it!!!
