‘We must act out passion before we feel it’ – Sartre

What a thought! How can one act with passion unless one feels it? But come to think of it, is it really that paradoxical? We often hear, ‘fake it till you make it’. Isn’t it? Same way, we can fake compassion too. Why?

Suppose you are given a task you don’t like but you have to do. There are two choices. One, you do it half-heartedly and produce a mediocre or below average result or, you gear up yourself and put passion as if this is your favourite project and produce an excellent result.

Anthony Robbins talks of changing focus. Do an experiment. Whether you are sitting or standing, just change your posture. Sit or stand straight with shoulders pushed back a little and chin up. Do you feel the difference in your mood? Immediately, you start feeling more alert and attentive. Now slouch in your chair or stand with your legs loose. See the difference? You start feeling lethargic.

It’s all about changing your focus. So if you feel there is nothing going on for you and you have got a raw deal from life, think of people who can not see or hear or cannot speak. People, who live in abject poverty, people who do not have access to clean water and basic amenities of life.

As I always say, the choice is ours. If we choose passion, our whole life will start spinning on a positive axis or vice-a-versa. I know it is easier said than done, but believe me, I have done it. So can you. None of us on this planet is without problems or crisis but how you act is your choice.

Tomorrow morning when you get up, ask yourself what are three things you are excited about. If you are unhappy in your job, feel excited that you have a job. Start your day with passion even if you don’t feel it and suddenly you will realize you are passionate about things. So fake it till you make it.

So be it!!!
