‘Wisdom begins in wonder’ –Socrates
I read it first when I was in university and had to take a
main subsidiary to my Hons. Course. I took philosophy and read Socrates. It
didn’t resonate with me at that age but as I grew old, the quote came back to
me.
We often talk of gaining wisdom with age. That is true to
quite and extent. But have ever thought how when you wonder about something,
ponder over it, you gain an insight which is real and profound. Its only when
we start giving a serious thought to issues, begin wondering about them, that
we talk to ourselves. And this dialogue is the most important. We can lie to
the whole world, even our family and friends but we cannot lie to ourselves.
How many times you have realized your mistake or some wrong doing even when you
shouted from the roof top that you were innocent. How many times, you have felt
guilty of cheating somebody emotionally, mentally or even financially while
posing as his or her confidant.
Wisdom comes when we begin to wonder about relationships,
issues importany to us and to others. Very often we hear seniors saying, ‘I
wonder if what I did was correct’. They are gaining an insight into their own
actions. Wisdom follows after. But why wait to get older? Why not start
wondering about relationships right here, right now.
Spend sometime alone everyday, watch your breath and you
will find yourself wondering about things that are much more important and
deeper than our mundane existence. In fact that will help us live our mundane
life better.
So go ahead and wonder
So be it!!!
